DaViMUN 2014

We cordially invite your school to the 3rd annual session of Da Vinci Model United Nations (DaViMUN), held on Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22, 2014 in Leiden, The Netherlands.

DaViMUN is a two-day international Model United Nations (MUN) Conference for and by high school students. At DaViMUN, students assume the roles of diplomats, representing a nation or NGO in a simulated session of a UN committee or international organization (e.g. the UN Security Council or the Council of the European Union). DaViMUN is an exciting opportunity for students to learn about foreign policy and to seek solutions to the problems faced by world leaders today. They will respond to these problems by drafting resolutions and engaging in negotiation and debate. In doing so, students develop communication- and critical thinking skills such as leadership, teamwork, policy analysis, research, active listening and public speaking.

After a very successful 2013 conference on the World in Crisis, our staff of passionate and dedicated Da Vinci students is working hard on pulling off the next conference. It is my great pleasure to serve as Secretary-General, with the people that were so crucial to our success in 2013, as well as with newcomers who bring a set of great new skills to our organization. The theme of DaViMUN 2014 is ‘Shifting powers’, focusing on the shift of economic and political power. Right now, America’s political power is decreasing, while China is making it’s way to the top of the financial world. At the same time, Europe is still recovering from the Eurozone crisis caused by the collapse of the Greek economy at the beginning of 2010. While coping with these on-going changes is at the heart of our conference, upcoming crises are paid equal attention to. For instance, the earth’s carrying capacity, population ageing, cyberwarfare and the environment will all be the subject of debate at DaViMUN 2014.

We would be pleased and honoured to have your school participate at our conference. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact the Secretariat General by e-mail at info@davimun.org.

We look forward to meeting you at Da Vinci College in June 2014.
